Oldham is a large town within Greater Manchester. In the 19th Century, Oldham rose to prominence as an international centre of textile manufacture. The town is still remains marked architecturally of its manufacturing roots, with several large cotton mills. A total population of 103,544, Oldham today is a centre for further education and the performing arts.
